October 27, 1988 - March 27, 2025

In loving memory ~

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Benjamin Poznekoff, on March 27, 2025, with

his family by his side. Ben was born in Nelson BC, on October 27, 1988. He was the beloved son of Michael and Janet Poznekoff, and younger brother to Nicole and Becky.

Ben faced a long battle with a neurodegenerative disorder, Friedreichs Ataxia, with an unshakable spirit and steadfast attitude.

He was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Ben will be remembered for his infectious

smile and overwhelming laughter, his determination and perseverance in the face of his disease, and his joyous disposition. He had a rare gift for finding humour in all of life's situations, and he took every opportunity available to him.

Ben grew up in Blewett, South Slocan, and eventually Castlegar, graduating from Mt Sentinel Secondary School, and then going on to Selkirk College. He took the Classroom and Community Support Worker program, and eventually became a photographer for the Adult Special Education Class. This class combined Ben's ability for making others feel special with his love of photography.

Ben travelled throughout Canada, the States, Mexico, and South America, embarking on both local and international adventures. He enjoyed the gym, the pool, good meals shared with friends and family, cruising the local roads with music, and the accessible Kootenay landscape.

Ben is survived by his loving parents, Michael and Janet Poznekoff, his sister Nicole (Mike) Verigin, sister Becky (Greg) Wheeler, nieces Olivia, Esmae, & Tabitha Verigin, as well as many uncles, aunts, and cousins.

A celebration of life was held at New Life Church in Castlegar, and burial took place at Park Memorial Cemetery in Kinnaird.

The family would like to thank Dr. Shivkumar, Dr. Piljek , Dr. Colella, and all the compassionate staff at Talarico Place. Thank you to Jordan Wren and the staff at the Castlegar Funeral Chapel, James McFadden for officiating the service, and Bette Armstrong and her kitchen crew for their beautiful luncheon.

Thank you to the family, friends, neighbours and members of the community for their outpouring of love, and for the flowers and meals in this difficult time. Your love and support has been so appreciated!
