December 8, 1937 - March 27, 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Betty Semenoff. Betty passed away peacefully on the evening of March 27, 2020 at the Castleview Care Centre in Castlegar, BC.
Betty was born on December 8, 1937 in Crescent Valley, BC to parents Peter and Mary Kavaloff. She was raised in Champion Creek, BC with her siblings Peter, Elaine and Cecil.
Betty married Steve Semenoff on a snowy day on December 8, 1956, on her 19th Birthday. They built a home and resided in Ootischenia where they raised three children: Gordon, Andy and Sandra.
Betty was a lady whose kindness, love and generosity touched us all. Her love for her family and friends was evident in how she treated people, and her time spent with her grandchildren was the light of her life, she cherished them dearly. She always made genuine time for everyone and enjoyed being in the company of others. She kept in close contact with family and friends; meeting for coffee, visits and phone calls. Her sister Elaine will especially miss their Sunday evening phone calls. Her son, daughter and grandkids will most definitely miss the almost daily phone calls. She very much appreciated all visits from everyone while she was in her home and during her stay in Castleview.
Betty enjoyed spending time in her beautiful vegetable and flower gardens, as well her time spent crocheting. She was extremely hardworking, determined and a perfectionist. She was also the most loving, humble, compassionate and caring person who also loved to laugh and joke around.
Betty is predeceased by her son Gordon, husband Steve, brother Pete and both parents.
Betty was an amazing lady that we were all blessed to have the privilege to know and have in our lives. She is lovingly remembered by her son Andy, daughter Sandra (Wayne) Jensen, granddaughter Alexa and grandson Connor, as well as many other special family members.
A private Funeral Service was held at Castlegar Funeral Chapel on Monday, April 6 at 10:00 am followed by interment at the Ootischenia Cemetery. A Celebration of Betty's Life will be held at a later date.
Betty's family would like to express our heartfelt thank you to all of you who helped us in so many ways: Bill Strilaeff and staff of Castlegar Funeral Chapel for orderly conduct of funeral proceedings, Dr. Taylor for your ongoing compassionate care, Castleview Care staff for being so very kind and taking such great care of Mom, she greatly cherished conversations with each of them and appreciated their care, the Home Care Support staff for your constant help and support, the grave diggers and to all our relatives, friends and neighbors for your kind words, messages and phone calls. We sincerely thank you all!
As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in Betty's name to Castleview Care Centre via cash or cheques made payable to Access Kindness for Seniors.
As a family, our hearts are filled with sadness for our loss until we meet again, but our love for Mom remains ever eternal.
"May God accept Mom into his heavenly Kingdom".
