It is with a sense of inconsolable sorrow that we announce the sudden and untimely passing of Darren M. Jackson of Robson, BC.
Beloved by many, well known for his winsome smiles and heartfelt hugs, Darren fell in love with the Kootenays and knew this would be his forever home. Born in Flin Flon Manitoba, Darren spent much of his life in Manitoba and Ontario before moving to the Castlegar area with his dear partner. As a transit worker in Winnipeg, he made many lifelong friends and as a recent resident of this area, he added many new friends to his vast network. He touched the lives of so many with his gentle good humour and will never be forgotten by them.
He was creative and imaginative. He took joy in caring for visiting hummingbirds each year, who flew to his door to look for him each morning. He painstakingly nurtured baby succulent plants into a beautiful garden that adorned his home. He had an infectious laugh that was unforgettable. He exuded positive energy, and friends and acquaintances were heartened by his perpetual optimism.
Darren left us without warning in the early hours of July 17, 2018 and leaves behind his grieving spouse Darren Steinhoff. He also leaves behind his cherished daughter Danya of Flin Flon, parents Phyllis and Murray, sisters Charla, Karen, Lisa and Melissa and their families, as well as Marie-Eve, Carol-Anne and Mitchel, the children of his spouse, who he loved as his own.
Darren was often described as being "bigger than life", and so in passing, he leaves an even larger hole in our hearts. He took joy in the beauty of this area and his spirit will forever inhabit the place he loved.
In line with his wishes, there will be no funeral, but a celebration of his life will take place at some time later this year.
In lieu of flowers, Darren would no doubt appreciate a donation in his name to the provincial SPCA, to assist in the care and protection of animals.
