We are very saddened to announce the passing of Derek Colville. He was born in Belfast, Ireland and came across to Montreal at the age of 10 years. He was one of 9 children and started roofing in Montreal in his early twenties.
Derek and his wife Dee-Dee and 3 children drove across Canada in 1973 to move to Vancouver. He continued roofing there and in 1979 moved to Castlegar to start Colville Industrial Roofing. He did roofing for many years for the pulp mill and enjoyed hunting, fishing & prospecting. He continued with residential roofing and employed many young men.
He was liked and admired for his honest and fair work. He taught many his trade, including his own 4 sons. He was devastated in 1988 with the sudden passing of his oldest son Rick Colville.
Derek and Dee-Dee were divorced in 1993 but remained friends throughout the years.
He is survived by his children Michael, Shannon (Michael Miskell), Ryan, Dylan and Elizabeth. He has 5 grandsons and 1 great granddaughter.
He was a very kind hearted man who will be missed by many.
There will be no funeral by request. The family would like to thank all the home support workers and Castlegar nurses who got to know Derek so well.
