BCPIA extends its sympathies to the Atkins family, well known in the BC Printing Industry.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Don Atkins, a remarkable husband, father, grandfather and brother. Don died at 1:50 am on Monday, November 8, 2010 in Lions Gate Hospital.
Don was born January 26, 1932 and lived all his life in Vancouver becoming a successful businessman and partner at Benwell Atkins Printers. He was an entrepreneur, mentor and supporter of numerous organizations and institutions including the Alcuin Society, Vancouver Playhouse Theatre, YMCA and SA&D Publishers to name a few.
Don was a caring and supportive friend. His courage, wit and wisdom inspired all of those around him. He is survived by his wife Barbara, daughter Adriene and grandchildren Heather and Hayley, his son Christopher, daughter-in-law Angela, grandchildren Jessa, Alex and Deanna, and great-grandchild Keira, his brother Bryan and sister-in-law Gail, as well as many nieces and nephews and a lifetime of friends.
His Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 12th at 3:00 pm at West Vancouver United Church on 2062 Esquimalt Avenue, West Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for donations to be made to Muscular Dystrophy Canada in honour of Don.
