Jul 13, 1952 - Jan 2, 2018
Don was born in the old Nelson Hospital on July 13, 1952. He lived in Pass Creek until he was five, then the family moved to Salmo.

Don lived in Salmo until 2006 when he relocated to Talarico Place in Castlegar. He became a resident because of an anoxic brain injury and lived there until his death.

Don loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, mushroom and huckleberry picking, picnicking at the top of the mountains, cutting firewood and was never without a fishing rod, bucket or chainsaw when he was venturing in the backcountry.

Don worked with the BC Forest Service tree planting and fighting forest fires. He helped his father on his rock quarry, worked at local sawmills until the mills closed, at the Seven Mile Dam, road clearing for Darkwoods, as a labourer in BC and Alberta for his brother-in-laws company Valco. He was last employed by Donny Hubscher Logging.

While at Talarico, Don enjoyed bowling, painting class, day trips, lunch outings and sitting outside enjoying the sunshine, and his tiny tomato garden and visiting with family and staff at Talarico.

Don is survived by two sisters Carol Landis of Nelson and June (Richard) Sheloff of Slocan Park and two nephews, Brian Sheloff of Surrey, BC and Dwayne Sheloff (Trish Laktin) of Langley, BC, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Don was predeceased by his father Hiram (2004) and mother Olga (2007) both from Salmo.

Special thanks to Dr. Merritt, RNs and LPNs, care aides, recreation and kitchen staff at Talarico Place for the excellent care given Don over the years.

Also a special thank you to Jordan Wren of Castlegar Funeral home for the care and professionalism shown during our time of loss - Landis and Sheloff families.

There will be no funeral service by request. Burial of cremains will be at the Robson Cemetery at a later date.

We love you and miss you dearly.

Keep on fishing brother!!
