November 22, 1935 - April 21, 2019
It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of our mom, wife, Gramma, and Great who passed away peacefully in the Trail Hospital at the age of 83.

Doreen was born in North Battleford, SK to Ernest and Francis Pierce. At 15 she moved to Yellow Knife NWT where she eventually met Dad, was married and they started their family. Later moving to the Edmonton area where they rounded out their family before moving to Castlegar in 1972.

Doreen is survived by her husband Hugo of 67 years, son Curt (Heather), daughters Bonnie (Alstan) and Lynn (Keith), 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Her sense of family and community was strong. Mom made it her mission to create memories, which always centered around being together with creations from her kitchen. She had a strong passion for gourmet cooking for family and friends.

Doreen was extremely busy in, and committed to, our community, as a Brownie Leader, serving on the School Board and City Council, Selkirk College Foundation, Co-Chair of the Volunteers for the BC Senior Games in 2011, heading Community Futures at its inception, and an active member of the Castlegar Sunshine 2000 Rotary Club. In 2009 she was honoured to be named Citizen of the Year.

A heartfelt thanks goes to Dr. Ankenbauer for his kindness and care.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made to Castlegar Hospice Society in her name, online at www.castlegarhospice.org or by calling 250-304-1266.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on April 27th, 10:30 am, at St. Rita's Parish in Castlegar, with a reception to follow.

Castlegar Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
