March 2, 2022
Our Mom, Grandmother and Great Grandmother passed away peacefully on March 02, 2022 at the age of 101. Mom's journey began in England in 1921 and, as an infant, she immigrated to Canada with her family. Mom was raised in the ranching lifestyle in the Okanagan and it contributed to the capable, independent spirit that she demonstrated throughout her lifetime.
Mom met William McNee in Vernon and the young couple married and relocated to Rossland, BC, where Dad was employed at CM&S (Teck). They purchased a lot on the newly developed Kinnaird Bench and built their home as they could afford and as their family grew. Mom remained in the family home until her passing.
As well as raising their five children, Mom was active in the community as a Brownie and Girl Guide leader, volunteer at the Castlegar Library, delivered Meals on Wheels to home bound seniors, worked in the St. David's thrift store, and was a lifetime member of the Castlegar United Church and U.C.W.I. Many students at KJSS will remember Mom as the "soup kitchen lady" making hot soup for hungry teens at lunch time.
Mom cultivated her creative side in her many beautiful gardens in the spring and summer months. In the winter she always had a project of knitting, quilting, sewing, crocheting or needlepoint, and a novel on hand for reading.
She is survived by her daughters Marianne, Deborah, and Dorothy (Barry), daughter-in-law Delores McNee, eight grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, sons Paul and Randy, grandson James Hubscher, and son-in-law Jerry Hubscher.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Our many thanks to the Castlegar Funeral Chapel.
