March 12, 1965 – May 27, 2019
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Elaine Voykin.
Elaine was born on March 12, 1965 in Nelson, BC to Alex and Elaine Voykin. She grew up in Slocan Park with her two older sisters, Maxine and Natalie.
Elaine was a very active child, always keeping her mother and sisters on their toes. She enjoyed spending time at the ballpark with her dad, fishing, swimming, and spending
time with animals and her many friends. Elaine graduated from Mt. Sentinel Secondary School in 1983. In fall 1984, she married Bill Tarasoff. They settled in Slocan Park and had three children: Wesley Peter (1985), Lesley Ann (1987), and Ashley Elizabeth (1988). Elaine played a big role in her children’s accomplishments; she was there for every championship won and PhD earned.
Elaine’s life took a new path in the early 2000s. She moved to Shoreacres with her children, and her path soon reconnected with Bryan Woods and they began their new life together. They built a beautiful home in Castlegar, where they were married (2007). In 2012, Bryan’s work took them on a new adventure to the West Coast. While living on the Coast, Elaine enjoyed golfing, walks along the Fraser River with their dog Jasmine, and spending time with her grandsons, Austin Alexander (2014) and Maddon Charles (2017). With Bryan, Elaine enjoyed many wonderful summers in Christina Lake on the boat soaking up the sun and sitting around the campfire, as well as traveling all over North America. Elaine was always the life of the party. She had a sense of humour like her father and was sometimes stubborn and a cheater at card games like her mother. She gave great big hugs and always made everyone feel welcome. She loved the water, to read, to drive, to dance, and to sing.
In summer 2016, her journey was disrupted by cancer. Still her sense of humour never wavered. In her final years, she continued to enjoy traveling, music, and spending time with her family. Elaine passed peacefully with her family by her side on May 27, 2019 in Abbotsford, BC.
We love you always.
Elaine was predeceased by her nephew Brian Tarasoff (2006), father-in- law John Ernest (Ernie) Woods (2006), and her precious pets, Vanilla (2005) and Jasmine (2015).
Elaine is survived by her cat Caroline, her parents Alex and Elaine Voykin; her mother-in-law Elaine Woods and the extended Woods-Rilkoff family; her sisters Maxine (Joe) Moreira and Natalie (Steve) Podovennikoff and numerous nieces and nephews; her son Wesley Peter and daughter-in-law Lee-Anne and grandsons Austin and Maddon; her daughter Lesley Ann and partner Todd; her daughter Ashley Elizabeth; and, her husband Bryan Ernest Woods.
Elaine’s family suggests making a donation to your local hospice or the Abbotsford Hospice Society & Holmberg House.
