Obituary for the late Elizabeth Jean Darnbrough December 7, 1937 - September 4, 2019
Elizabeth Jean Darnbrough passed away peacefully on her own terms on Sunday, September 4, 2019 at the age of 81. Elizabeth is survived by her husband Leonard of 47 years, her only child Laura Semaniuk (Marty Semaniuk) grandchildren Jaclyn and Owen and sister in-law Diana Jenks (Len) and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited for a wee dram to Celebrate the life of Elizabeth on Sunday, September 22 at 1pm. The Celebration will take place at Medici's in Oliver, 522 Fairview Rd.
Elizabeth was born December 7th, 1937 and was raised in Paisley Scotland. She was a Midwife and Registered Nurse. In 1967 she came to Canada and worked as a RN in Kingston, Calgary and Vancouver.
In 1971 she met her husband Len at The Bayshore Inn at a singles dance. In 1972 they were married in North Vancouver and soon afterwards moved to Prince Rupert.
In 1974 she moved to Castlegar with her husband and worked in the Health Unit as a Community Nurse until her retirement in 1997.
Elizabeth waisted no time. The day after her retirement she was off in the RV trailer and travelled extensively in Canada and the USA spending winters in Southern California and Arizona with her husband. Elizabeth was a firm believer of "why wait until tomorrow when you can do it today!" They spent 5 years golfing, walking, playing cards, having a few drinks and reading while soaking up the sunshine.
In 2002 Elizabeth and Len bought a house in Oliver and golfed throughout the summer and continued to travel to over 25 countries.
Elizabeth spent the last few months of her life at Sunnybank Center. She would like to thank first and foremost all the care aides and nurses who helped care for her around the clock. The Desert Valley Hospice Society, Interior Health, Dr. Evans and numerous friends and family who visited her regularly.
Elizabeth was an avid dog lover. If you so desire, please make a donation to your local SPCA.
