Elsa Erna Houghton
October 25, 1926 - May 13, 2010
With extremely heavy hearts, the family of Elsa Erna Houghton announces her passing at the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital in Trail on Thursday, May 13, 2010, blessed with 83 years of life.
Elsa was born in Lake Demay, Alberta,
on October 25, 1926, to parents Ester and Carl Anderson, one of four siblings. After being friends and courting for a while, she married
Fred Houghton in Camrose, Alberta on
October 29, 1949 and they raised three sons and one daughter.
Elsa was a loving wife, mother, grandmother (Oma) and great-grandmother (Oma). She loved gardening, knitting, traveling, reading and spending time with her family. Elsa rounded
out her life as a volunteer librarian.
She was predeceased by her brother
Lester Anderson.
Left to mourn her loss are her loving husband of 60 years Fred, daughter Carla (John) Adams of Calgary, Alberta, sons Dean (Ann) of Calgary, Alberta, Douglas (Roxanne) of Belcara, BC and
Keith of Castlegar, nine grandchildren,
five great-grandchildren, sister Betty Lindstrand of Red Deer, Alberta, brother Earl (Betty) Anderson of Whiterock, BC and many other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life was held at the
Castlegar United Church on Tuesday, May 18, 2010.
Cremation was in care of Castlegar Funeral Chapel.
