It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Elsie Makasoff. Elsie left this Earth on September 12, 2021 with her family at her side. She was predeceased by her husband (John) in 2008 after more than 50 years of marriage.
Elsie was born in Glade September 27, 1937, and spent her early years in that community. Elsie and John settled in Taghum, and raised four children: Lollie (Grant) Furness in Penticton, Mike (Linda) Makasoff in Sault Ste. Marie, Janice (Dwaine) Couch in Vernon, and Marilyn (John) Van Zanden in Nelson. There are eight grandchildren: Mitchell, Tyler, Lindsey, Chelan, Breeanne, Jordan, Kelly and Andrew; and four great grandchildren: Carter, Cohen, Mariah and Calder. She was very proud of her children and their families.
Elsie was the cornerstone of her family, and was affectionately known as Baba. A role she loved and cherished. Nothing made her happier than having a house full of family with her in the kitchen ensuring everyone was well fed and looked after.
Her passion was to sing in the local Doukhobor choir. She was well known for her cooking and baking and loved to garden and make preserves.
Elsie enjoyed her retirement years, spending time with friends at Broader Horizons, and making new friends at Lake View Village.
A family service was held September 18 in Nelson, followed by an interment ceremony at Nelson Memorial Park Cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy, family and friends may make a donation to a charity of their choosing.
Her family would like to thank Elsie's friends and family for all their love, help and support; and her doctors, medical staff and support aides from Lake View Village and Jubilee Manor for their care and attention.
