Fred Arishenkoff

September 4, 2009

Fred Arishenkoff of Castlegar, BC peacefully entered eternal rest at Trail Hospital on September 4, 2009. Fred was

born on March 12, 1939 in Grand Forks, BC, to parents Peter D, and Helen Arishenkoff.

Funeral services were held at Brilliant Cultural Centre, on Sept. 10 & 11 with burial at Pass Creek Cemetary. Fred spent his early years growing up and attending school in Grand Forks and graduated in 1957. Soon thereafter, he met the love of his life, Donna Tamelin

from Pass Creek and they were married in October, 1960. Within the next few years, they became proud parents of son,

Leslie and daughter, Michele.

Fred pursued a career in teaching that lasted over 32 years. He received his teaching degree from UBC, and his M.Ed.

from Gonzaga University. His teaching posts would take him and his family to Nakusp, Fruitvale, and Castlegar (Kinnaird and Twin Rivers Elementary).

Retirement kept him busy. Fred was called upon to officiate at weddings and funerals. He was appointed to the Selkirk College Board of Directors. He also was instrumental in establishing a governance structure for the Grandview

Housing Cooperative of which he was a member. Fred also belonged and volunteered his time to the USCC. Some of his spare time was spent singing in choirs, playing guitar and singing at senior’s residences and Blue Grass festivals.

Fred was a dedicated, disciplined and devoted man. This was demonstrated through his raising of a loving family, using his talents to make a positive difference in the community, and

pursuing hobbies and interests that fulfilled his life. Fred leaves a legacy to his surviving family, his wife Donna;

son Leslie and his wife, Jacqueline Chua; daughter Michele and her husband, John Sicking; sister Nina Moojalsky;

brother Joe (Grace) Arishenkoff; granddaughter Missy Chua; and many nieces and nephews. Fred is predeceased by his parents and older brother Peter.

Fred’s presence will be missed by all who were touched by him. Although he is no longer with us physically, he will

continue to live through the many memories and through his generous spirit. Memorial donations can be made to USCC ISKRA, or ISKRA equipment fund, Box 3024 Castlegar, BC V1N 3H4.

The family of Fred Arishenkoff wishes to extend heartful thanks to the relatives, friends, and neighbours for their

comforting words, generous acts of giving and support during this difficult time. Thank you to all the medical staff

who cared for Fred during his illness, Castlegar Funeral Chapel staff, psalmists and congregational singers, ladies catering and Leonard Markin for officiating. There are not enough words to express our gratitude.
