It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Fred Tomilin, our Dad, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and partner who passed away peacefully on March 19, 2020 in Castlegar, BC.
Fred was born on July 15, 1928 in Ootischenia, BC to Mike and Annie Tomilin. He was predeceased by his wife Anita in 2009 and his daughter-in-law, Denise in 2012.
Fred is survived by: son Fred Tomlin of Merritt, daughter Carol (John) Gleave of Castlegar, son Gerry (Joanie) Tomilin of Fruitvale, BC. Grandchildren: Hilary (Graham) Fedorak of Salt Lake City, Dylan (Kristen) Tomlin of Kelowna, BC, Aron(Kristine) Gleave of West Kelowna, Trina (Rick) Heppner of Genelle, BC, Niki and Breanna Tomilin of Fruitvale, BC. And Great Grandchildren: Katrina and Arianna Fedorak of Salt Lake City, Utah; Anna and Kaley Gleave of West Kelowna, BC; Sahara, Hudson, and Destiny Heppner of Genelle, BC. Fred was a lifetime member of the USCC and participated in most of the functions of the community. Fred loved to sing and was a member of many choirs through his lifetime. Some of note were the Kootenay Men's Choir, the Expo 67 Choir, the Tri Choir and the Kootenay Psalmists. Though Fred left school at grade 6, he managed to achieve the designation of journeyman machinist at Cominco Operations in Trail BC. Fred loved to do woodwork and putter in the garden, growing some of the most amazing tomatoes. Fred also enjoyed his time at the cabin at Christina Lake where he served on the Board for a number of years. Fred always welcomed the time he had with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren telling them stories and at times simply spoiling them!
A private funeral will be at the Castlegar Funeral Chapel with a Doukhobor Burial at the Kinnaird Cemetery on March 24, 2020. A "Celebration of Life" Moleniya will be held at a later date. Family's register at www.castlegarfuneral.com.
The Family would like to thank the dedicated group of nurses, doctors and staff at both the Trail and District Regional Hospital and Talarico Place for their outstanding care of our father.
