Frieda Elmira Solima passed peacefully with family by her side at Talarico Place, in Castlegar, B.C. on Friday, September 23rd, 2016, at the age of 80, after a brief struggle with lung cancer. Devoted mother, Nanna and Grand-Nanna to her 6 children, 15 grandchildren and

9 great-grandchildren, she also leaves to mourn one brother and extended family.

Dear daughter of the late Fred and Elmira West, Frieda was born in Drummondville, Quebec on August 7th, 1936. In 1957 she married Franklin Chouinard and through his RAF service lived in Europe and across Canada. After his passing Frieda married John Solima in 1971 and settled in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. After John’s passing, Frieda resettled in Bowmanille, Ontario before moving to Robson, B.C. in 2001.

Frieda was an active member of The Order of the Eastern Star and The Royal Canadian Legion in Manitoba, Ontario and British Columbia. Once settled in Robson, she became a member of the Robson Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, the Red Hat Society and a supporter of the Robson Fire Slow-Pitch Team.

In her free time, Frieda loved to knit, crochet, sew, read and spend time with her family and friends.

This August all of Frieda’s children and many extended family members as well as friends joined her in celebrating her 80th birthday.

The family wishes to thank Frieda’s doctors and the wonderful staff of Talarico Place for all of their care and compassion during her brief stay.

Frieda will be greatly missed by her many friends and family members. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to Talarico Place, 709-10th Street, Castlegar, BC, V1N 2H7.

At Frieda’s request no service will be held and she will be interned in Bowmanville, Ontario, with her mother and father. A Celebration of Life will be held in Robson at a later date.
