November 28, 1939 - April 2, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George George Markin of Castlegar (Raspberry Village). George passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital in the early morning hours of April 2, 2019. George was born on November 28, 1939 to George and Laura Markin of Raspberry Village. Being the first born son, he was of course the focus of much attention, from his parents and especially from his grandparents, Peter and Natasha Lebedoff.

His childhood was spent with family, including many aunts, uncles and cousins; and many friends. Evenings of singing, lots of food and lots of laughter. This could be the start of George's love of Russian music. He was a member of the Kootenay Men's Choir in his early years.

His first job with Waldie's sawmill (across the road from where he was born) netted him both a shiny new Pontiac and Christine, the love of his life, or Chris as he called her. George and Chris were married in 1960 and started their family shortly after. Terry came along, followed by his sisters, Leona and Shelley.

George continued working at the sawmill for a time and then he started on his real career. A life (and love) of trucking and machinery began with his working for Public Freightways. With years of trucking under his belt, he bought his first gravel truck, around 1975. This became his passion and he went on to form his own company and worked hard at that until his retirement.

George was very social person who like to know what was going on. He was kind and gentle and very family oriented.

George is survived by Christine, his wife of 59 years; his children Terry (Yvonne), Leona McQueen (Bob) and Shelley Mills; his grandchildren - Jenna (Matt) Kuroyama, Brenden and Jesse Mills and Liam Markin; great- grandchildren - Ella and Harper Kuroyama. And of course, his grand- puppy Jacxson, his "Little Buddy". George also leaves his brother Paul (Marilyn) and sister, Joyce Idle (Tom).

He was predeceased by his parents, George and Laura, his grandparents, Peter and Natasha Lebedoff and his in-laws, Fred and Grace Hadikin. May He Rest in Peace.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Little Bear Golf Course, 872 Waterloo Road, Castlegar BC, V1N 4K8 on May 11, 2019 at 11:00 am.
