Jan 5, 2018
It is with great sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of our dear husband, dad, deda and great deda George Stoochnoff.

He passed away at Talerico Care Home on January 5, 2018. George was 85 years old, born in Shoreacres, BC to parents John & Annie Stoochnoff.

He leaves behind his beloved wife Helen and his sons Laurence, Gordon and spouse Brenda, Barry and spouse Amber, Terry and spouse Tammy and his daughter Sarah. Grandchildren Leanne, Patrick, Alison, Rhea, Mariah, Jared, Tyson, Chelan, Brandon, Kira and Chase and great-grandchild Presley.

George and Helen were members of the Ambassador choir, Kootenay choir and the Expo 67 choir and could be convinced to sing at any function.

George had a strong work ethic and was a millwright/carpenter at Kootenay Forest Products in Nelson. He later joined with the local carpenters union and retired after 50 years of service. Over the many years of employment George worked on several large hydroelectric projects such as Micah Creek Dam, High Arrow Dam, Kootenay Canal, Seven Mile Dam and the Limestone Dam in Manitoba. George spent countless hours building several projects for the Doukhobor community, including the construction of the Shoreacres hall and many years volunteering his time building a strong sense of community pride.

George enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. In his earlier years both George and Helen took pleasure in camping, boating, cross country skiing and playing crib. Being a large and close knit family there was always something to celebrate, these are the times we will miss him the most!

We would like to thank the doctors, nurses, Talerico staff and the home support workers for all their kind efforts in the caring of our dad. A special mention to dad's number one caregiver, mom. We love you.

God made a wonderful Deda

A Deda who never grows old

His smile was made of sunshine

And his heart was made of gold

is man he could build anything

A workshop  filled with love,

Steady hands  fly new wings

As he guides us from above.

~ Love you Deda George
