August 25, 2024
In loving memory ~
It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Mom, Baba, and Friend, Gertie Poohachoff on Sunday, August 25, 2024. Mom passed away with her family by her side.
She was born in 1936 in Glade to William and Fanny Wasilenkoff. She met our dad (Mike) and in November of 1959, they married. They were blessed with almost 61 years of marriage.
They started their life together in Beasley in the house they built together raising four of their five children, before moving to Shoreacres where #5 was born.
Mom enjoyed tending to the garden (and waiting anxiously for that first tomato of the season to be picked and savoured).
Her borscht was second-to-none and her famous Baba G dip was always in demand. (Can't forget her huckleberry tarts either). She so loved to go out and pick huckleberries in her younger days and go creek fishing with dad and all of us kids piled in the station wagon, which always involved a tail-gate picnic of home-baked bread and fresh veggies from the garden. We all loved her Sunday hot cake Baba breakfasts too.
She loved to spend time with her grandchildren, who meant the world to her, and she especially loved spending time with her great granddaughter Lexi.
We will miss her strength, her wisdom and most of all, her smile and hugs.
Mom was predeceased by her parents William and Fanny Wasilenkoff, her sisters Annie, Violet and Mary, her nephew Steve and her husband Mike (the love of her life).
She is survived by her five children: son Wayne (partner Odette Laramee), daughter Christine (husband Len), daughter Valerie (husband Bill), son Mitchell (wife Louise) and son Ken.
She is also survived by her brother Harry Wasilenkoff, and her nieces and nephews. Grandchildren: Britt, Kiri, Elise, Colton and Kylie. Great granddaughter Lexi, and we can't forget Stori (her fur buddy).
We will miss her more than words can say. A huge thank you to our brother Ken for being with Mom each and every day.
Thank you for being our Mom. Hope you win big at the "Heavenly Casino".
A special thank you to Dr. Nick Sparrow (KERPA) and the staff in the ER Dept. and 3rd floor at KLH for their compassionate care of Mom. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to KERPA.
Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, September 5th at 11:00 am at Shoreacres Cemetery. A private family luncheon to follow.
