In loving memory ~
With broken hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Mother Glenys New after a long battle with lung disease.
Glenys was born in 1938 in Prince Rupert B.C. to David and Mary Owens, the youngest child with older brothers Andy and David. She met the love of her life Norman New and they were married in Prince Rupert in 1956. They had 3 children there and in 1960 moved to Castlegar for Norm to work at the new pulp mill. They had their last daughter here in Castlegar.
Glenys was very active in a lot of things throughout her life, the library, sunday school, hockey mom, bowling, and square dancing. She got a good job with the school district and managed to take the whole family to Hawaii. She was the first person you would see for many years as you walked into the school board office.
Glenys was very social and had many friends and even a group of ladies that met as a coffee group every Monday for most of her time in Castlegar. She had a generous spirit, joyful personality and passion for life that was infectious. She was always the first to give out a great hug and welcome you in. In her retirement her and Norm became snowbirds in Yuma and enjoyed camping, clogging and golfing and making even more friends.
She loved her roles as mother, grandmother and great grandmother spending as much time as possible with her many grandchildren and all her friends. She will be dearly missed by all.
Glenys was predeceased by her mother and father, brothers Andy and David and granddaughter Jaqueline. She is survived by her loving husband Norman, her son Warren, her son Kevin (Joanne), her daughter Cheryl, her daughter Teena (Doug), grandchildren Candis, Mechelle (Galen), Karleigh (Tanner), Russell (Brandy), James, Wheeler, Axel, Nathan and great-grandchildren Rozzilyn, Jaxxon, Asher, Everleigh, Alden, Annie and Andrea
A private Celebration of Life will be held in late Spring/Summer 2023.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Canadian Lung Association.
