August 8, 1945 - November 24, 2024

In loving memory ~

It is with great sadness that the family of Grace Babakaiff (nee Hadikin) announce her passing with her loving family by her side on November 24, 2024.

Grace was born on August 8th,1945, to parents Fred and Grace Hadikin of Ootischenia. She was the second of three children, with her eldest sister Christine (George) Markin and younger brother Fred (Vivianne) Hadikin, both from Castlegar.

Grace married Walter Babakaiff in 1979. They built their home in Surrey, BC, raising their children, daughter Sasha and son Scott. Grace was a devoted mother and wife, known for her delicious pancake breakfast feasts.

Grace was raised in Ootischenia and began her career working at a government office in Nelson. She later moved to Vancouver with a job at UBC but eventually left work to focus on raising her family.

Grace had a zest for life and enjoyed many activities. She loved traveling and visited Whales & Spain early in her life. Hawaii and Mexico were favorite places for her and Walter to visit. She loved singing, taking photos, and making photo albums for her family. She loved country music and never missed watching the Country Music Awards on TV. Grace was also a passionate hockey fan, especially proud of her grandson Nathan and her great-nephews' achievements on the ice. She had a special talent for making every family member feel loved and celebrated, never missing a birthday or special occasion.

Grace was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Grace Hadikin. She leaves behind her loving husband of 45 years, Walter; her daughter Sasha (Ron) Hayes of Nanaimo; and her son Scott (Jessica) Babakaiff of Vancouver. She also leaves behind her beloved grandson Nathan and nieces and nephews Terry Markin, Leona McQueen, Shelley Mills, Jayme Jones, and Leslie Hadikin.

Grace will be dearly missed by many other friends and family members who were touched by her generosity and presence.
