It is with great sadness that the family of Hazel Helen Voykin announces her passing. Hazel was born in Crescent Valley on February 25, 1948 to Sam Tomelin and Helen Tarasoff. She married Steve Voykin on April 6, 1963 and they raised their family in the lovely Village of Glade. Mom enjoyed gardening, camping, skiing and going to the beach with her grandchildren in her later years. Family was of utmost importance to her and Baba was a role she cherished. She made a point of making each grandchild's birthday special, often with a party at Boston Pizza and a trip to town for new clothes.
Hazel returned to school in her forties to become a teacher's assistant and worked with the School District until her retirement. Hazel passed peacefully after a short battle with cancer at the Trail Regional Hospital at the age of 72. Hazel is survived by her sons Darrel (Nadine), Robert (Liza), and Christopher, six grandchildren; Kyle, Brad, Andrew, William, Malina, Braiden, two great grandchildren; Madison and Travis, brother Sam (Marcie) Tomelin, brother Larry (Pat) Chernenkoff, sister in law Kathy Konkin, and many nieces and nephews, cousins and other family members and close friends. Hazel will be forever loved and missed.
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at the Trail Regional Hospital for caring for our mom. Thank you to the Castlegar Funeral Chapel for their services, the cemetery workers, the USCC Ladies Cultural Interpretive Society, Harry Lebedeff for helping us with the proceedings, Pastor Tom Kline for his message and all who were able to attend mom's services during these times.
