April 25, 2016

Ingeborg passed away at Talerico Place April 25th with her family at her side after an 8 month battle with cancer.

Ingeborg will be lovingly missed by her husband Ben of 63 years of marriage; daughter Elisabet Thor-Larsen; Daughter Katrine Conroy (Ed), son Thomas Thor-Larsen (Sandy); and daughter Sana Marsh (Jerry), brother, Poul, and a sister, Inger. She had 11 grand children and 9 great grand children, as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Denmark.

She was born in Fredriksun, Denmark March 18, 1932. She was raised in a busy house, the seventh of eight kids. She immigrated to Canada in 1952 to marry the love of her life Ben, who had immigrated a year earlier. They lived on Texada Island from 1952 to 1963 where all four children were born. The family moved to Castlegar in 1963.

Ingeborg was trained as a book seller in Denmark and was hired to manage the Selkirk College Book Store from 1969 to 1971, where she was fondly known as “Ingebookstore” Larsen. She was also a charter student at Selkirk College where she took Russian. She was an accomplished fibre artist and famous for her beautiful blankets. These were often given as gifts to visiting dignitaries including Governor General Ed Schreyer and Lieutenant Governor David Lam.

Ingeborg was a Marriage Commissioner for 10 years marrying many couples in her own home, as well as throughout the Region from rivers edge to the tops of mountains.

She was a founding Board member of Kootenay Columbia Child Care Society, (Kootenay Family Place), actively involved in the NDP and an Honourary Life member; a member of Selkirk Weavers and Spinners Guild, the Castlegar Art Council, and a great supporter in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren’s’ lives.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Ingeborg’s name to the Castlegar Hospice Society, or an organization of your choice. The family would like to thank Dr Lesperance and the staff at Talerico place for their loving care of Ingeborg. A Celebration of Life will be held May 7, 2016, 2 o’clock at the Kinnaird Hall.
