With immense sadness the Penman family announces the passing of James Penman on September 29, 2016 at the age of 81. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Jim traveled the world while serving in the British Merchant Navy as a marine engineer. He emigrated to Canada in 1970 with his wife Rae, and worked for Cominco (Teck) in Trail for 27 years. Throughout his life Jim made a difference - contributing to every community in which he lived. A freemason from the age of 18, Jim gave decades of service with The Lions Club, The Shrine, the Castlegar Recreation Commission, and served on many strata councils. After retirement Jim and Rae moved to Vancouver Island, and after the birth of their grandson, moved to the lower mainland, settling in Coquitlam. Jim was a talented carpenter and designer, an avid soccer fan, and he loved cycling, completing 100km races well into his 60s. But most of all, Jim loved to laugh. He will be remembered for his ever-present sense of humour, his generosity, and for his dedication to community. Jim is survived by his wife Rebecca (Rae), daughters Alison and Heather, and grandson Decland. There is no service, however a Celebration of Life will be held at Jim and Rae’s residence in Coquitlam.
