November 17, 1937 - September 19, 2021
James Richard "Rich" Shypitka passed away on September 19, 2021 at Trail Regional Hospital at the age of 83. Richard was born in Fernie, B.C. on November 17, 1937 to Isabella and Stephen Shypitka. The family lived in Fernie for seven more years before moving to Cranbrook. Richard continued school in Cranbrook where he ultimately began his lifelong career in paving. Over his years, Rich worked for and ran many paving outfits, laying blacktop along many a road throughout B.C. and making lifelong friends along the way.
He also liked to travel the world, especially to warm climates such as Mexico where he made numerous great friends. He talked fondly of his travels and community involvement throughout his life. Rich was one of a kind and liked to live by his own set of rules.
Rich was fortunate to live the last two years on the beautiful property of a long-time friend, Garry Batting. He enjoyed gardening, sunshine, and the companionship of many friends and family that would visit.
Richard is predeceased by his parents, Stephen and Isabella Shypitka, his brother Bob, and his partner Evelyn Galo. Dad is lovingly remembered by his son Richard (Rati) Shypitka, his two daughters, Alyson (Allan) Hryniuk and Jennifer (Tedd Robertson) Shypitka, as well as Evelyn's daughter, Renee (Rob) Reid, his brothers Bill (Cathy) Shypitka, Keith (Lynn) Shypitka, Steve (Anne) Shypitka, sister-in-law Louise Shypitka, his grandchildren, his many nieces and nephews, and of course all his dear friends which he considered family.
