In Loving Memory ~
James W. Markin 89 years old of Glade, B.C., passed away peacefully with family at his side on July 3, 2023. Jim was the beloved husband of Polly Markin, they married on January 6, 1957.
Together they raised 4 children on Jim's family homestead and their farm. Their life was busy and full raising their children, tending livestock, and growing abundant gardens and hayfields.
Jim also has a very rewarding career in the logging industry. He retired from Kalesnikoff Lumber Co. when he was 65. Jim and Polly were a welcoming and hospitable couple and enjoyed visiting with anyone who dropped by.
He was an avid hockey fan and never missed a Nelson Maple Leaf's home game until well into his eighties. He loved attending his grandson's hockey games and tournaments and was a favourite fan.
Jim loved to instigate family get-togethers and many family bonfires, trips to restaurants and very special Christmas Eve celebrations were had over the years. Jim and Polly felt very lucky to have all their family within driving distance. Jim went above and beyond to lend a hand in the community and to family and friends.
Jim was predeceased by his mother Mary Markin, brothers Pete, Bill and George and his beloved sister Katie Koftinoff.
He was survived by his wife of 66 years Polly, 4 children, Mareena (Wayne), Verna (Orval), son Jim, and Corry (Norm). Grandchildren Jeremy, Kimberley, Lisa, Vance, Nicholas, Logan, Joffre, and Kia and nine great-grandchildren.
At Jim's request, a private family service will be held. Rest in peace, Dad.
We cannot express enough gratitude to the staff of Kootenay Lake Hospital. Thank you. Our heartfelt thanks for the kindness and care given to our dad by Dr. MacIntyre and Dr. Tuvel, again thank you.
