It is with great sadness that the family of John Abietkoff announces his passing on November 29, 2010, blessed with 61 years of life. John was born on February 16, 1949 in Trail, BC to parents John and Elsie Abietkoff. He was the eldest of 3 children. In his younger years, he worked in the orchards in the Okanagan. In 1971, he became an electrician. He loved hunting, fishing, camping and hiking and working on his computer. John also loved his four-legged companion, his cat Sophie. He was also and excellent cook and baker.

John’s pride and joy was his family, even through the time when his health was failing, he held the family together. He loved his family unconditionally and taught them the values of life. Left to mourn his loss are his loving wife of 35 years, Rita, daughters Corinne, Shelly and Melissa, brother Wayne (Verna) Abietkoff, sister Linda Poznikoff, and many nieces,

nephews, relatives and friends. John was predeceased by his parents and brother-in-law Paul Poznikoff. A Celebration of Life was held at the Castlegar Funeral Chapel on Thursday, December 7, 2010 followed by the interment at the Ootischenia Cemetery. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to their relatives and friends for their love and support and for all the food, cards and phone calls that they received during this difficult time. They also extend a big “Thank You” to all the people who attended the funeral service, the singers, the grave diggers, Jack Kabatoff for the snow removal at the cemetery, Ken Siemens for officiating the service and the staff of the Castlegar Funeral Chapel. John’s family also express their sincere gratitude to the doctors and

nurses at the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital for the care received, Blair Flannigan and Cathy Heiges for their unending support, the Sandman Inn for preparing the luncheon and Derm and Lillian Jackman for their guidance.
