John Jay Penner

PENNER, John Jay, passed away in West Kelowna BC on Feb 13, 2010 at the age of 85 years. He was born and raised in Hague, Saskatchewan and moved to Edmonton where he met and married Lelah who predeceased him by 17 years in 1993. He was a loving father to his four surviving children, Brenda in Prince George, Cheryl and Wayne in New Zealand and Brad in West Kelowna; eight grandchildren, Amanda, Brenda, Peter, Paul, Marni, Leah, Dana, Karen, nine great grandchildren, Michael, Asher, Nathan, Joshua, Arden, Solina, Odin, Stefanie, Anna. He is also predeceased by his second wife Nancy. John joined the Air Force a couple of years prior to the end of the Second World War as a Bomber Pilot and spent 28 years in the Armed Forces. After leaving the forces he resided in Abbotsford for several years before moving his family to New Zealand in 1972 to pursue his dream of building a ferro cement yacht. After four years he returned to Canada and retired to Castlegar, followed by a final move to Kelowna in 2004 to be closer to family. During his life John was an exceptional carver and artist, an avid reader and was a very keen observer of world affairs. In respecting his wishes there will be no service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice. We miss him greatly and will forever cherish his love and memory. John’s ashes will be spread with those of his first wife Lelah.
