May 24, 1934 - Apr 1, 2018
John passed away suddenly yet peacefully in his home on Easter Sunday at the age of 83. He was active until the very end of his life and was completely devoted to Castlegar and the Kootenay's.

John's parents, Anne and Tom, settled in Castlegar in its early years. They established a small farm on a piece of land that overlooked the Columbia River and Zuckerberg Island, and raised six children there including John.

After finishing school, John launched his career as a welder. He first worked around the East Kootenay, but then returned to Castlegar to begin employment at the Celgar pulp mill, where he remained until his retirement.

John's roots to North Castlegar were strong throughout his life. He built his house right behind the house he was born and raised in, which then became a home for his wife Jean and his two daughters, Carla and Shelley.

His lifelong love of nature was evident by his hobbies of hunting, fishing and photography. He also was very proud of working with his hands, whether on home improvement projects, his garden, or his latest woodworking project.

He used his talents to help his church, his neighbours and the wider community. He always loved hearing a good story and enjoyed telling them with a twinkle in his eye.

John experienced the loss over the years of his parents as well as his siblings Nick, Ron, Andrew, Nellie, and Lillian. His beloved wife Jean passed away in October 2015. He leaves behind his daughters Carla (Garry), Shelley (Mark) and grandchildren Jarrod, Brandon, Daniel and Sarah.

A graveside service to honour John's life will take place on Friday, May 4th, 2018 at the Kinnaird Park Memorial Cemetery at 2 pm. A reception will follow at the Kinnaird Park Community Church. All those who knew John are welcome to attend.

A special thank you goes to all the friends and neighbours who showed friendship and concern for John, especially after the passing of his wife, as well as his church family.
