Jose Melo
The family of Joe Melo sadly announces his passing in Castlegar, on Monday, November 15, 2010 at the age of 88 years.
Joe was born on February 18, 1922, in Vila Franca do Campo, San Miguel, Azores. Joe emigrated to Castlegar from the Azores in March of 1957, he found employment with Candian Pacific Railroad and then Celgar Sawmill until his retirement in 1985.
During his lifetime, some of Joe’s passions were gardening, listening to music and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Joe was also an avid Vancouver Canucks Fan.
Joe is survived by his wife of 67 years, Irene; his sons, Tony (Maria) Melo and Louie (Ronda) Melo; his daughters, Albertina Travassos, Lucy (Carlos) Ponte, Leonor (Stuart) Laurie; 13 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; his brothers, Daniel, Edward and Marcelino in the Azores and his sister Hilda in the USA.
He was predeceased by his parents and his four brothers.
Vigil prayers were held Thursday, November 18th at 7:00 PM and Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, November 19th at 10:30 AM with Father Harry Clarke presiding followed by interment at Park Memorial Cemetery. A family service was also held at Living Waters Faith Fellowship on Sunday, November 21, 2010 at 10:30 AM.
Joe will be sadly missed by his family and many friends but we rest assured knowing that he is in heaven with Jesus his Saviour.
