Kenneth Lee Nelson was born on May 5, 1940 to William and Laura Nelson in Spokane, Washington. He spent a happy childhood there. Ken attended Eastern Washington University as well as University of Oregon. He taught school in Idaho and Oregon before the family moved to Castlegar in September of 1974. He taught at KMS until his retirement in 2004. He enjoyed teaching band to all the young people through the years. He always said he had the best possible job he could ever have had.

Ken leaves behind his wife, Mary Ellen, of 56 years as well as five children, Sandra, Russell (Holly) Robert, Chris , and Scott (Tamera) . Also six beloved grandchildren: Ashley, Caleb, Jacob, Faith, Sarah, and Matthew.

He also has one sister, Patricia Yeager and her family, plus cousins, nieces and nephews. Mary Ellen’s large extended family loved him as their own.

Ken fought bravely with cancer for seven long years but lost the battle on July 15, 2016. He passed away at his home in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho peacefully with his wife by his side.

He will be missed and never forgotten.
