Leonard Harry Darnbrough passed away peacefully on October 17, 2022 just shy of his 83rd birthday. L
en was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth of 47 years.
He is survived by his daughter Laura Semaniuk (Marty) grandchildren Jaclyn and Owen, his sister Diana Jenks (Len) and many nieces and nephews.
Len was born October 24,1939 in Nanaimo, British Columbia. In 1943, he moved to Comox where his father was employed in construction of the Comox Airport during WW2. Len went to elementary school in Comox and graduated high school in Courtenay.
After working for a while at the Comox Airbase and in the logging industry Len went back to school and obtained his Radio Operators Certificate. In 1962, he worked for 5 years as a Radio Officer for a Union Steamship Company in New Zealand. There he travelled extensively around New Zealand, Australia, Tasmania and the South Pacific Islands and had many fond memories of his time there.
In 1967, he returned to Canada and joined the D.O.T. as a Radio Coast Guard operator in Bull Harbour. Also in 1967, he took further training in Ottawa, returning to work on the Ocean Weather Station Papa ship as a Radar/Radio Operator for 3 years.
In 1972, he married Elizabeth and he was transferred to Prince Rupert Marine Air Radio. In 1974 he was transferred to Castlegar and worked as an air traffic controller at the Castlegar Airport until his retirement in 1996.
Once retired he and Elizabeth travelled extensively throughout North America for over 5 years in their RV trailer. In 2002 they relocated to Oliver where they golfed throughout the summer and travelled to over 25 countries until the passing of Elizabeth in 2019.
In August 2020 Len moved from Oliver to Gibsons to live with his daughter Laura and her family.
In June of 2021 Len moved into Christenson Village where he enjoyed chatting with the staff and cracking many jokes. Thank you to the staff at Christenson Village for their kindness and care.
Len will be interred with his beloved wife Elizabeth, in the cemetery at Oliver BC in November.
