The family is feeling great sadness and loss as we announce the sudden passing of Lucille Nevakshonoff on the morning of Feb. 18, 2009 at St. Pauls hospital in Vancouver.

Lucille was the youngest of two children born to Lucie (nee:Markin) and George Popoff.

She was born in Brilliant on January 5, 1938 and grew up in Ootischenia.

She married Peter Nevakshonoff on December 6, 1958. The couple settled in Castlegar and had two children; Joseph and Peter. After the loss of her husband in 1968, she began working at Columbia Store, which later became Fields, where she worked until her retirement.

Lucille enjoyed gardening, embroidery, crocheting knitting, and cooking. Most of all Mom loved spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren who were her pride and joy. She loved to watch her grandson play baseball and her granddaughter play softball or dance.

She was predeceased by her husband Peter, her parents Lucie and George Popoff, her mother and father-in-law Mary and John Nevakshonoff and her niece Mary Anne Edwards.

Left behind to mourn her passing are her son Joe (Berni) and grandchildren Dyllon and Victoria; her son Peter; her brother John (Olga) Popoff; sister-in-law Polly (Mitch) Chernoff; many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.

Memorial services took place on February 26, 2009 at the Castlegar Funeral Chapel. Internment was held at the Ootischenia cemetery. Thank you to Bill Strelaeff and the staff for all their assistance.
