July 7, 2018
Our loving Mother, Grandmother, friend and rock, Lucy Bosse passed peacefully on Saturday the 7th of July, 2018 at 91 years young. Her zest for life was a huge inspiration to others and her positive outlook touched all our lives for the better.

She came to Canada as Lucy Brodman in the 1930s with her mother and siblings Marlis, Natalie, and Chuck, with Rene being born shortly after. While they left their lives in Switzerland behind, the connection to the Swiss lifestyle and family lived on.

She spent many happy years on the Brodman homestead in the Slocan Valley across from Lemon Creek; then moved with her family to Castlegar in the 1940s. In 1946 she was crowned May Queen (first Miss Castlegar).

About that time she went to a dance at Playmore hall and met the love of her life - Leo Bosse. They married in 1948, and moved to Vancouver and shortly after had their first son Larry (1950), followed by Raymond (1951) and after moving back to Castlegar in 1952 had Daniel (1954). Lucy spent lots of time with her family - camping, fishing, and traveling - always including her mother Nona.

There wasn't any one thing Lucy loved to do as she loved everything in life, especially cooking for her family and hosting joyful family dinners. She always welcomed anyone into her home for meals and social gatherings - she was a true social butterfly. Lucy was the heart of the family. Her grandsons Mark, Robert, Bradley and Gwyn have fond memories of times spent with Grandma. She loved to play games with them as children where her creative imagination really shone through.

Lucy was very well known and loved in the community. She spent many happy years raising her family with Leo before he passed. She worked in Bosse's Jewelry store well into her 70s before finally retiring, selling many wedding and engagement rings to local families. In her later years her love for life did not diminish. She remarried Bob MacBain and they loved roaring around in the convertible Jaguar together. Lucy could always been found at her house on 9th Avenue for a visit and a glass of beer or seen adventuring about town on her unmistakable whirligiged scooter.

To celebrate Lucy and send her off in the same joyous zest that she lived her life with, please join us at Kinnaird Hall on Saturday the 28th of July at 11:00am. All whose lives have been touched by Lucy's spark are welcome to join us in celebration - any fond or zany memories of Lucy can be shared with the group or written down for the family to read.

In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted to fund a memorial to the lives of Lucy and Leo Bosse for their contributions to the local community. In addition, for those of faith, a service will be held Monday the 16th of July at St. Rita's Church at 10:30 am. Lucy's exceptionally warm heart and humour touched all people she met.
