Mabel Markin

With sad hearts, the family of Mabel

Markin announces her passing at Talarico Place Care Centre on Fri. Sept.18, 2009 at the age of 92 years. Mabel was born in Grand Forks on May 3, 1917 to parents Alex and Fannie Astofooroff. She lived in Grand Forks until March 21,1940, when at the age of 22 she met and married Mike M. Markin of Ootischenia. The young couple made their permanent resident in Ootischenia where they raised a son and a daughter. Mabel was a devoted USCC member her entire life, belonged to the Ootischenia Choir, attended peace marches and served in the volunteer

Ootischenia Ladies Cooking Group. She was an avid gardener and loved crocheting and sewing. Mabel had a gentle soul and who loved, got along

with and was friendly to, everyone.

Mabel was predeceased by her father in 1970, mother in 1985, beloved husband Mike in 1985 older sister Tina Trubetskoff in 1972 and older brother Peter in 1983. Left to mourn her loss are son Harry (Paulette), daughter Patsy (Alex) Naychuk, six grandchildren,

six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held in the Ootischenia Community Hall on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009 from 10:00am to 12:00 noon followed by the internment in the Ootischenia Cemetery.
