Marcel passed away peacefully on January 1, 2018 with his family at his side.
He was born Oct 9, 1944 to Leo & Mariette Audet in Estevan, Saskatchewan the 6th of 8 children. He lived a simple idealic childhood on a farm by Outram, Saskatchewan surrounded by friends & cousins. He worked various jobs finally settling on a plumbing trade.
In 1966 he married Elaine Lalonde & they started their married life in Estevan Sask and later moved to Kelowna for work in 1970. In 1977 the family moved to Castlegar where he set up a roofing & siding business with his brother-in-law Fred Lalonde. Many, many Castlegar residences remember him from his honest & fair workmanship.
He was a volunteer member of the Castlegar Fire Department for 25 years. He spent 10 years with the Castlegar Lions Club, relishing in the work putting on trade fairs, a rodeo & one year the RCMP musical ride.
Marcel was predeceased by an infant daughter, Kimberly; his parents Leo & Mariette Audet, sister Patricia Carriere and 2 brothers, Richard & Lorain Audet.
He is survived by his wife Elaine of 51 years, children Jody (Mike) Crumb, Tammy Audet, Joel Audet and 3 grandchildren, Brayden Nelson & Maddox & Warrick Crumb.
Marcel loved to travel, with many trips around the world and across Canada, but his favourite was Mexico. He so wanted to have one more winter there, but illness denied that wish. He loved his yard & garden, would spend many, many hours puttering outside at something. He enjoyed a good round of golf, camping & playing cards with friends. He delighted in his grandchildren in his own Marcel way.
Marcel was a long term, active member of St. Rita's Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a sacristan for several years and could be seen helping at every church activity.
A big thank you to the 2nd floor staff at Trail hospital & the Cardiac unit at Kelowna General hospital. They were true angels in the wonderful and kind care they provided. We are so appreciative of Father Harry Clarke who faithfully administered to Marcel's spiritual care with great love & friendship.
Our heartfelt thanks for the outpouring of food, flowers & visits from the family, friends & community. We appreciated the presence of the honour guards provided by the Knights of Columbus & Castlegar Fire Department at Marcel's service.
The funeral was held at St. Rita's Catholic Church on January 8 with Father Rafael Benosa officiating and arrangements made by Castlegar Funeral Chapel.
