In loving memory ~
The family of Marga Walter is sad to announce her passing on July 7, 2023, at the age of 98. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Rudi, of 61 years.
Marga was born in 1925 and grew up in a part of Germany that is now Poland. Following the war, she joined Rudi in Canada to marry in Toronto in 1953. They lived in the small town of Terrace Bay in northern Ontario until 1960 when they moved to Castlegar, B.C., where a new pulp mill was built. Thus began Marga's 63-year stay in her true home of Castlegar. She and Rudi raised their children, experiencing downhill skiing, camping, and many other activities. They travelled extensively, meeting lifelong friends along the way, before moving into Castlewood in 2010.
She was extremely talented in sewing, knitting, crocheting and many other crafts. Marga's legacy to Castlegar came from her experience as a young child in Germany where she attended a kindergarten that she enjoyed so much it inspired her in the 1970s to provide a very popular pre-school for 3 and 4-year-olds from the basement of her home on Oak Street. She was very progressive providing a structured format of play time and education. Everyone knew Marga for her pre-school, and right up until her passing 'students' still remembered her.
Marga will be missed very much and leaves behind her son Norm (Joan), daughters Karen (Rob) Bedin and Angie (Rick) Gibson, as well as 4 granddaughters and 2 great-grandchildren.
