On October 2, 1940, a beautiful baby girl named Maria Conceicao da Alvernaz Jorge was born to
Leonor and Antonio Jorge in Madalena, Pico, Azores Islands. Maria would become a big sister to her brother Manuel Jorge two years later.
The little girl grew to become a lovely young lady who would meet the love of her life while he was helping her parents collect the harvest. His name is Jose da Rosa da Silva. Maria and Jose got married on April 28, 1962 and quickly started their family.
In 1963 their first child, Jose Manuel was born but sadly passed away in 1964. They continued with their family with the births of Joe (Erin), Paulina (Grant), Maria (Steve), Tony (Anjie), Marcie (Karen), and Manuel (Jodi).
In 1972, with their young family, they migrated to Castlegar, BC where they made their home. The family continued to grow with the birth of their last child Paul (Heather).
Maria was a stay at home mom while Jose worked at the local sawmills. When the children were older, Maria went to work in hospitality services.
Maria's great loves were her family, friends, cooking, crocheting, houseplants, and animals. Maria and Jose retired in the mid 1990s and patiently waited for grandchildren.
She finally received seven: Redford, Gina, Hailey, Thomas, Charles, Aven and Lucas.
She will be remembered for her laughter, love of her family and her endless patience. Love you always Mom. You will be forever in our hearts.
