With sad hearts the family of Maria Conceicao of Castlegar wishes to announce her passing at Talarico Place Care Centre, on Monday, December 10, 2012, blessed with 90 years of life.


Maria was born in Rosario Lagao, São Miguel, Azores, Portugal on December 2, 1922, to parents Antonia and Manuel Misturada. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking and visiting with family and friends. She loved travelling with her family, visiting her nephew in Vancouver and attending the Portuguese Social Centre. Maria also loved animals.


She was predeceased by her loving husband José Costa Teixeira in 1989,

one sister and two brothers.


Left to mourn her loss is her son Manuel O. (Joana) Costa; granddaughters Julie Costa (Paul) Semenoff and Cecilia Costa (Tom Tjader) Olinger; great-grandson Brendan Olinger;

sister-in-law Maria (Tony) Silva and many nieces and nephews.


Vigil Prayers were at St. Rita’s Catholic Church on Thursday, December 13, 2012 and Mass of Christian Burial at St. Rita’s Catholic Church was celebrated by Father David John on Friday, December 14, 2012, followed by interment in Park Memorial Cemetery.


Arrangements were in care of Castlegar Funeral Chapel.


The Costa family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Keith Merritt and the staff of Talarico Place Care Centre for the compassionate care they provided Maria. The family also wishes to thank Father David John, the CWL, St. Rita’s Catholic Church and

Castlegar Funeral Chapel.
