MEDEIROS, Maria
After a lengthy illness, Maria passed away peacefully with family by her side and went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 3, 2009 at the age of 91. She is survived by her loving family: daughters, Maria Alice da Silva (Manuel) of Portugal, Maria de Freitas (Manuel) of Kelowna, Lucy Duncan (Ross) of Kelowna; sons, Jose Medeiros (Fatima) of Toronto, Manuel Nunes (Maria Lucia) of Castlegar; nine grandchildren: Jorge da Silva (Conceicao), Carlos da Silva, Madalena da Silva, Lisa Madeiros, Aida Holmes (Robert), Fernando de Freitas, George Flynn, Sandra Flynn, David Nunes (Tracy); ten great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. Predeceased by her parents, her five brothers and sisters and her husband Joao. Maria emigrated to Canada in 1969 to be with her daughter. She lived with them in Castlegar until making her home in Kelowna in 1990. Special thanks to Doctors Hudson and Lichtenstein and the nurses and staff in Cadder Court at Cottonwoods Extended Care for their generous and compassionate care. Prayers will be recited on Tuesday, April 7th at 7:00 pm at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 8th at 1:00 pm at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1077 Fuller Avenue, Kelowna, BC with Father Bart van Roijen as Celebrant. Interment to follow in the Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cancer Center for the Southern Interior: 399 Royal Ave., Kelowna, BC, V1Y 5L3.
