It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Maria Odete Silva, on December 25th, 2018.
Maria was born on April 4th, 1934 in Faial, Azores Islands, Portugal to Manuel and Aristina Garcia. She was the youngest of two children (pre-deceased by her brother Manual in 2010) Maria and her family eventually moved to the island of Pico where she met her loving husband Albino of 64 years. Maria and their oldest son (Jorge) eventually embarked on a new adventure to join her husband Albino who had immigrated to Canada 2 years prior. They went on to have two more sons (Laureno & Albino Jr.)
When she immigrated in 1956 she brought along the generous character of the Azorian people. She would not accept no for an answer and guests would often leave with their bellies full as she loved to share her sweet bread, octopus and lemon pie and many other creations.
Maria was a spirited woman doling out her love around the world. She spent hours nurturing her stunning garden and then enjoyed donating beautiful bouquets she created. Maria would often remark that people are like flowers, not one is the same, they are all unique and equally beautiful. Her faithful, kind and loving heart, loved to help the less fortunate with her faith, food and flowers and over the years she consistently donated to various charities and causes.
Maria also loved to crochet, bake, garden and devote herself to her faith.
Maria will be lovingly remembered by her husband Albino, her sons - Jorge (wife Theresa), grandchildren Graham and Brayden, Laureno (wife Gail), grandchildren Ryan, Kyle, Tyler and Alysha, Albino Jr. (wife Shelley), grandchildren Lauren and Adrian, and many great grandchildren, friends and her faith.
