Marie Visser, (nee Vonk), a Vavenby resident since 1986, peacefully parted on May 14th, 2018 at 90 years of age.
Our beloved Mom, survived by daughters, Mary (Gord) Vollans and Hendrina/Henny (Daryl) Arlitt; was blessed by and loved her 10 grandchildren; and all her great grandchildren plus 2 great greats! She was predeceased by Jason Arlitt (6 months) and Matt Vollans (36).
Known as "Oma" to many, (a Dutch term of endearment for Grandma), she was born in Ottoland, Zuid Holland, January 9th, 1928 to Jan and Marie Vonk on; who predeceased her along with her 1 sister and 2 brothers.
Upon marrying Art Visser (predeceased as of late), she came as a new bride to Canada, settling in Grand Forks B.C. in 1956. Starting family there, they then raised their 2 daughters in Armstrong B.C. She worked as housekeeper at the Armstrong Hospital, as well as residentially. She eventually moved to Vavenby B.C. where she spent the last 30 years of her life.
To those of us who knew Marie, she was known for her gift of serving and generosity; helping those in need; diligently and selflessly devoting her time and skills set as Nanny, Housekeeper, and Caregiver. Her Faith in God sustained her as she practised hospitality, visiting the sick and helpless; always ready to reach out her hand to heal the hurting; a sweet, gentle soul, full of mercy.
A service will be held June 2, 2018 @ 2 pm (viewing @ 1 pm) at the Clearwater Christian Church (1010 School Rd, Clearwater, B. C.) Reception @ 4 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vavenby Christian Church, where Mom/Oma attended and enjoyed fellowshipping.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, especially her family whose lives are forever enriched by the love and gratitude she shared.
Although we mourn her passing, we do not mourn in despair, but with hope. We rejoice in her return to her maker, Christ Jesus who she faithfully served.
