In Loving Memory ~
Marilyne Joan Mochoruk (nee Hay) passed away in Trail, B.C. on June 2nd, 2023, three weeks before her 87th birthday.
Marilyne was born and raised in Regina where she spent her first 68 years and where she and her husband, Steve, raised their family.
Always generous with her time and energy, Marilyne volunteered at the kids' school, became a certified gymnastics judge and was especially proud of the years she spent as a partner in a local sportswear boutique.
In 2004, she and Steve relocated to a river-front acreage in Glade, B.C. which brought new activities - harvesting grapes, picking apples, and taking care of horses. A fierce Roughrider fan, she never missed a game on TV.
Marilyne was a skilled and adventurous cook whose greatest joy was nourishing family and friends. Her kitchen was the kitchen of a cook; the pantry and 4-foot-high spice cupboard overflowed with cookware and ingredients including such exotics as xanthan gum, agar, garam masala, galangal, chickpea flour, doughnut, and baguette pans.
She leaves a legacy of recipes, both traditional and contemporary, collected and lovingly crafted over decades, ranging from curried potato perogies to chickpea chimichangas to the all-time Sunday morning favourite - Super Waffles.
Marilyne was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Steve, parents Alex and Anne Hay and brother Gary.
A devoted mother and caring friend, Marilyne will be greatly missed by daughter Jo-anna; son Alan, and, the apple of her eye, grandson Alec; sister-in-law Helen; nieces and nephews Harold Machmer (Jacquie), Laura Miller (Dan), Fred Mochoruk (Wendy) and Shirley Reed (Ernie); and many more nieces, nephews, and friends.
She will also be missed by dogs Angel and EllieMae and horse Pyper.
We will love you always, Mom.
At Marilyne's request, no funeral will take place. A memorial will be held on September 23rd at 1:00 p.m. at the Glade Cemetery.
Donations in Marilyne's memory to the BC SPCA would be welcome.
