It is with great sadness that the family of Marvin Leo Sommers announces his passing at Talarico Place on September 2, 2010 at the age of 88 years. He was born February 25,1922 on the the farm at Westbridge, BC. He lived there until he finished school, helping with the farm chores.

Marvin married Shirley Dennis in Osoyoos, BC. June 25, 1954 and together they raised two children Leo and Ruth while living in Rock Creek, Greenwood and Castlegar.

He loved the outdoors - hunting, fishing, boating and camping. Marvin also loved to do wood working for hours at a time. He loved his garden and spent many happy hours there. He loved the animals and birds especially the humming birds. He knew the day they would return and the hour. The humming birds would knock on the window for him to come and give them more food. When he went into Talarico Place they ceased coming. He loved birds as much as people.

He was a member of the Industrial First Aid for over 30 years and then an associate member until his death. He took a first aid team to competition in Nelson, which went to provincials. After that he traveled the province on weekends attending competitions of first aid. His camera was always handy and he took pictures of the teams, made up albums and sent out pictures to the teams. He was made an honorary member of the first aid department of the Compensation board. An honor he cherished deeply especially because all the board members had signed the letter.

Marvin is survived by his wife Shirley, son Leo, and daughter Ruth (Dale). His sister Vera (Ralph) Anderson and family, brother-in-law Jerry Kelm and family, Sister-in-law Barb Hull and family, Aunt Audrey Worthington and many nieces, nephews and extended family Alexander, Tracy and Stacy.

He was predeceased by his mother and step dad Janie and Fred Berchtold, his bother Sherman Hull, Ervin Sommers, his sisters Vivian (Ad) Bertchtold, Velma (Mike) Toto, Dolly Kelm, Nephews Stan Hull, Frank (Milly) Bertchtold, nieces Eileen (neil) Berchtold and sister-in-law Freda (Bert) Sheasby.
