In loving memory ~
With heavy hearts the family of Mary Arishenkoff announces her passing a mere 16 days before her 95th birthday.
Mary was born on August 26, 1928, in Koe Siding, now Slocan Park to Fred and Polly Chursinoff. When she was 14 the family moved to Nelson. At 15 she worked at the hospital. Two years later she moved back to Slocan Park and spend summer and fall working in Osoyoos and later in Penticton at a cannery. Mary began dating Nick and on December 19, 1949, they married. Married life began in Vancouver (where Leon was born), then Grand Forks and finally Kinnaird (now Castlegar). Here children Dan, Margie and Ed were added.
Mary had numerous friends and loved baking, cooking, gardening, crocheting, travelling entertaining and spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. For years she was a 'fixture' at the Plaza Bakery and then Carl's Drugs where she developed a loyal following.
Mary is survived by sons Leon, Dan (Elena) and daughter Margie. She was predeceased by her son Ed in 1998, her husband Nick in 2003 and her only sister Helene in 2020.
The family is eternally grateful to the staff at Talarico for their love and care where she spent her last 5 years.
There was no service as per her wishes.
To honour Mary's memory, donations can be made to Iskra.
