Mary Ish (nee Salekin) passed away suddenly on Sept 11, 2013. She is survived by her husband Lloyd Ish, children Gerry Tarasoff (Jacquie), Tom Tarasoff (Sally), Judy Soroke (Don) Debra Niehaus, 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, and her treasured sister-in-law, Maureen.

Mary was born on October 27, 1930 in Castlegar, BC to Nora and Pete Salekin and was the eldest in a family of three. She met and married the love of her life Lloyd Ish in 1974.

Mary was an outgoing person who had many friends from all walks of life. She was a kind, wise, giving and accepting person to everyone. Her garden was her pride and joy. Mary was known for giving away most of what she grew and she would never hesitate to offer you dinner or something to eat if you happened to stop by her home. She valued above all else, her family, and particularly enjoyed all of the children who affectionately called her Baba, whether she was their Baba or not.

She took up golf when she met Lloyd and came to love the game. Known for her putting, the ladies at the Castlegar Golf Course still say “well that was a Mary Ish putt” or “up the middle Mary.”

Mary was predeceased by her parents Nora and Pete and her brothers Peter and Earl.

A celebration of Mary’s life took place at her home on Sept, 21st, 2013. Mary’s family would like to thank everyone who attended, and also for all the ongoing love and support and well wishes during this difficult time.

Mom, you have touched so many hearts and your strength will live on forever in all of us.
