It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Tarasoff, four days after her 88th birthday.
Mary was born in Grand Forks, grew up in Gilpin and lived in Shoreacres, Creston, Cranbrook and many years in Kamloops before returning to the Kootenays, spending her final years in Castlegar.
Mary loved to garden, cook, can, and practiced a variety of needle crafts, all while keeping a pristine home. In Kamloops, she was a regular participant in the North Shore flea markets, buying and selling many treasures. Her grandkids were her joy as was the Doukhobor Cultural Interpretive Society where she helped make quilts and pillows for people in need.
She is predeceased by her parents Peter and Mary (Horkoff) Tomilin, siblings Ann and Peter and husband Jim Tarasoff.
Mary is survived by her sister Katie Astaforoff, children Elizabeth Burnham, Edward (Marilyn), Gloria Reibin (Dan), and Cecil (Janet); grandchildren Jason Burnham (Selina), Lisa Barnes (Graham), Brad Reibin (Liz), Jeff Reibin (Vanessa), Whitney Tarasoff, Mackenzie Tarasoff (Demetrius Schwab) and Logan Tarasoff; Great- Grandchildren Nathan and Emmalina Burnham, and Seth Reibin.
The family would like to thank doctors Merritt and Makwati for their years of care and the staff at Kootenay-Boundary Regional Hospital, Poplar Ridge Pavillion and Castleview Care Centre for caring for Mary during her final months. Mary has been laid to rest in Shoreacres Cemetery.
