Mary Voykin of Castlegar, B.C. passed away suddenly on February 14, 2023, at the age of 80.
Mary was born on July 15, 1942, to Alex and Helen Naychuk. She grew up in Slocan Park and married Jack Voykin in 1961. They had two children.
Mary practiced as a nurse at the Castlegar and District Hospital for many years. She was well known
for her baking, especially her bread, pies and cinnamon buns, which she was always delighted to share with family and friends.
Mary was predeceased by her parents and four siblings. She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 62 years; her daughter, Susan (Karl) Zurek and son, Gerald (Kathy) Voykin; 4 granddaughters and 3 great-grandchildren; her younger brother, Peter (Deb) Naychuk; sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the Castlegar First Responders, the medical staff at Castlegar and District Community Health Centre, and to Simrah, Kunwar and staff from Canada’s Best Value Inn.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Mary to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of B.C. & Yukon.
