Mervin Lester Rush

September 28, 1923 – August 13, 2022
Mervin passed away at Saanich Peninsula Hospital in the early morning of August 13th at the age of 98.
Merv was born on a homestead in rural Saskatchewan and spent his early years in Melfort, SK. He graduated in 1949 from the University of Saskatchewan in electrical engineering. While in Saskatoon he met Marjorie Fair and they were married in 1949. Work opportunities took Marge and Merv to various towns in Canada and finally to Castlegar where he worked for Celgar Pulp & Paper, retiring as plant engineer in 1985. Merv was an active community supporter and was particularly proud of his role as Board Chair of the Castlegar and District Hospital. In 2002 Marge and Merv bought an ocean view condominium in Sidney, BC and enjoyed their retirement years on the west coast.
Merv is predeceased by his wife, Marge, his parents, brother Donald, and sister Audrey. He is survived by his daughter Libby (Glen) of Victoria, son Robert of Sidney, and sister Lois in Regina and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the amazing staff of the South Unit and Palliative Care Units of Saanich Peninsula Hospital for their compassionate care of Merv in his final months.
