It is with deep sadness the family announces the passing of Mike A.Kanigan at the age of 82.
Mike was born September 10, 1941, to parents Afanasy and Lucy Kanigan.
Mike grew up in Krestova and attended a few years of formal schooling. He started his work life in the sawmill industry, working for the Doubinin sawmills in the Slocan Valley, BS&L in Salmo, Kootenay Forest Products in Nelson, Slocan Forest Products in Slocan City and for the Interior Lumber Manufacturing Association (ILMA) until his retirement in 2003.
Mike married his best friend and partner in life, Frances Markin in 1963. They started their life together in Shoreacres, B.C., where they were blessed with 3 children, Cheryl, Warren and Tammy. In 1974 Mike accepted a position as a Quality Control Inspector with the ILMA covering the area of Boundary and Okanogan.
Mike was a lifelong member of the Union of Spiritual Communities of Christ (USCC).
He leaves behind a beautiful legacy to his family for being a caring, helpful and generous husband, father and Deda.
Mike passed away on August 21, 2024, at the Kootenay Boundary Hospital in Trail B.C, after a sudden illness.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Frances, daughters Cheryl (Dayna), Tammy (Harold), son Warren (Natasha), 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandsons and 1 great-granddaughter.
Funeral services were held at the Brilliant Cultural Center, Brilliant B.C. August 29, 2024.
Mike will be forever in our hearts and prayers and may his soul be accepted in God's Heavenly Kingdom.
