Muriel Heagy

Muriel Kathleen Heagy passed away in her sleep, Monday May 11, 2009.

Muriel was born March 31, 1920 in Assiniboia Sask. To William and Annie Belbeck.

She was 5th in a family of 8 children. Muriel married Raymond Heagy May 3, 1942 and they came to Castlegar in 1947.They built their home on 10th Avenue and lived there for

57 years raising their 7 children. Muriel was very involved as a parent as well as in community life. Active in the United Church, the library, as a cub leader, Legion Ladies Auxiliary and was nominated Citizen of the Year. She was predeceased by her husband Ray in 2005, her parents and two brothers, John and Hal Belbeck, and sisters, Julia Riley, Marion Belbeck, and Ivy Hill. She will be greatly missed by her sons, Murray (Rena) of Burns Lake, Dennis (Penny) of Maple Ridge, Terry (Debbie) of Robson, Robin (Penny) of Victoria, and David (Annie) of Nelson. Her two daughters, Janice (Gary) Bro of Campbell River and Lori (Frank) Verigin of Thrums will also miss their Mom. Muriel leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 9 great grand children, who she enjoyed so much. Her brothers Bill Belbeck and Dan (Bernice) Belbeck of Ontario and Saskatchewan and their children will mourn her passing as will nieces and nephews in Castlegar and Montana. Mom loved having such a large extended family.

The family wishes to thank all the staff and her friends at Castlewood and Talarico for the support over the last 4 years. We also thank all family and friends that have supported Muriel and family over these last few months. ”For the greatest of these is Love.”

A memorial service was held May 19 at the Castlegar United Church.
